It was February year 2002 when Miikka
Korpilo bought a new car. The new, although
actually used car, was model Nissan-Datsun
Sunny 1.5 B11 wagon from 1986 and the cost,
with the brand new euros at that time, was
800 €.
Buying cars was for the 26- year-old Miikka
already familiar. Expectations just weren’t
really high because of the first junk car which
broke down on the road because of the
brakes and the gear box exploded. Miikka
was disappointed of the whole car culture,
partly even lost his faith. As a matter of fact he
didn’t even get any encouraging words for his
new car even from the old owner because we
are still talking about a vehicle which was
estimated for around thousand euros. |

Can exceptional top individual be suddenly
born from the conveyor belt? It definitely looks
like that. During the years all the assumptions
which Miikka had for this car have been
proved wrong. This car – Nipu, has proven to
be a real “iron knight”. It has been fit and
roadworthy in a way which would make any of
his fellow-aged cars ashamed. It has been on
the road, started up when asked and giving a
ride without complaining, for all kind of human
and animal travelers around Finland and
Europe. It has been in Sweden, Denmark,
Germany, the Netherlands, Baltic countries,
Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia,
Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Czech
Republic and in Slovakia. In the car and
because of the car many things have
happened and taken place. When these
things are getting older we are starting to
recall these memories. That’s why worn out
looking but brave Nipu left a track in many
peoples’ hearts. |

However, now Nipu has become old. Miikka
knows that it still has some kilometres to go in
the future, which Nipu will do easily. Then
sorrows of oldness start to appear: rust,
coughing and side noises. Before that
something has to happen. Miikka and his
crew have decided to make one unforgettable
journey: trip to Nipu’s home in Japan. Japan,
where brand-new, fresh and shiny Nipu once
left to conquer world, is going to be also
Nipu’s heaven and last peacefulness. |
